Celebrating 25 years of GCBF

Last weekend was the 25th anniversary of the longest running beer festival in Canada. We’re talking about the Great Canadian Beer Festival (GCBF) in Victoria. The Granville team have been attending since year one and this year was no different.

On the morning of Friday, 8th September we left the smoky skies of Vancouver to make the short hop over to Vancouver Island, and after a brief but frantic set-up period, the festival began. So, we poured beer, and those of us not pouring beer drank beer. The team consumed its fair share of tasty food and drinks. Here are some of our festival highlights!

Best Costume
The festival was filled with thirsty beer fans, including some dressed in very fancy costumes. In particular, we want to give a shout out to the hop and malt girl

Best Booth Design
The team was left decidedly impressed with our fellow brewers at Hoyne Brewing, who made an impression with their super-spectacular 50’s rock and roll booth design.

Favourite Beer
How to choose?! There we so many that our team liked from, R&B’s Fruity Milkshake IPA to Moon Under Water’s Concord Grape Kettle Sour, but we concluded that our ultimate favorite of the festival was Twin Sail’s Horchata Milk Stout.

Best Brunch Spot
After our first day of drinking, we needed to reset for day two. Floyd’s, the impossible to miss bright pink building in the heart of downtown Victoria, is a must! Their chicken & waffle benny is a must-have, or if you’re feeling risque, try ‘The Mahoney’.

Best Random Party Moment

Partying in the Hoyne and Driftwood parking lots, and being crowned with fresh hops by the Driftwood girls. Thanks, ladies.

Best Commemoration
Kevin, our Brewmaster, receiving an award from GCBF commemorating Granville’s 25 years of participation. It’s definitely been a journey.

There were tons of other memorable moments, people, and brews, but we don’t have all day guys. You are more than welcome to stop by the brewery and chat about our experience – or just have a beer! Either way, we will definitely be back for the 26th year 😉
